Baidu’s Wireless Search Offer in China
Baidu,
Inc., a leading Chinese language Internet search provider, has announced
it has entered into a strategic partnership with China Unicom (Hong
Kong) Limited to provide wireless search for China Unicom's 3G mobile
subscribers.
Under
the agreement, Baidu's wireless search service will be embedded in China
Unicom's 3G mobile phone modules. China Unicom's mobile subscribers will
be able to use preinstalled applications to access Baidu products
including web search, Baidu Knows, Baidu Post Bar, image search, news
search, MP3 search and other services.
Of late, Baidu has taken a number of initiatives to expand its business.
In an arrangement last year, it
entered into agreements with UiTV, a leading operator of
Internet television platform in China. Under these agreements, Baidu
offered to contribute assets related to the operation of Baidu Internet
TV Channel to UiTV in exchange for an 8.3% stake in UiTV and US$15

Asia-Pacific region, according to data from web market research company

Baidu also decide to introduce its online
C2C platform, called "Baidu Youa." It is an online shopping system
through which merchants can sell their products and services at Baidu-registered

Baidu
will also provide search functions within China Unicom's wireless
Internet sites to service the carrier's users.
