Over
100,000 Registrations for .tel Domain
Registrations from businesses and individuals worldwide had gone past
100,000 in just 36 hours after its general availability opened. Telnic
Limited, the registry operator for the new communications-focused .tel
top level domain (TLD) informs today (March 26).
"The
overwhelmingly-positive response from people applying for the .tel shows
that this is a service that is right for the time," said Khashayar
Mahdavi, CEO of Telnic Limited. "The ability for individuals and
organisations to control how people contact them through one .tel name
for life has obviously struck a chord."
In the
first few hours of general availability opening (where the price for a
one-year term starts from just $10 per year), around 250,000
applications were received, demonstrating huge demand, says Telnic.
New
registrations continue to flood into Telnic with more expected, as
leading social network MySpace begins to sell to its customers and
global communications company BT begins to sell .tel domains from May of
this year, initially through BT Tradespace.
Telnic
explained that
MySpace's 130 million active users,
with over 20 million unique monthly users accessing the community via
mobile devices, will now be able to take advantage of the .tel to better
promote their MySpace page in organic search results from any device.
Telnic
also confirmed that it was accepting applications from further resellers
from all over the world.
