Motorola Deploys WiMAX Trial Network in Vietnam
Motorola has deployed its first WiMAX trial network for Vietnam
Datacommunications Company (VDC), a member company of the Vietnam Posts
and Telecommunications Group (VNPT). It’s claimed to be the largest
Internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam.
The
network will allow VDC to test next-generation wireless broadband
services in major cities of Vietnam with Motorola's WiMAX 802.16e
technology.
The
launch of the WiMAX service follows the signing of an agreement between
Motorola and VDC to commence a technical and commercial WiMAX trial in
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City last year. Under the agreement, Motorola will
install WiMAX Diversity Access Points and more than 100 customer
premises equipment (CPE) in the nation's two largest cities.
"Launching the trial network for Vietnam Datacommunications Company is
another milestone in Motorola's long history of leading WiMAX
development in the industry," said Dr. Ray Owen, head of Technology for
Asia and general director of Motorola Vietnam. "The WiMAX trial further
strengthens our relationship with VDC and offers more choices of
broadband access to its subscribers."
Motorola WiMAX 802.16e technology will enable VDC to reach a wider
subscriber base, helping it to meet the growing demand for broadband
services and other IP services such as VoIP. WiMAX will allow more
people across the country access to faster Internet connections and
other advanced telecom services.
"Vietnam Datacommunications Company gains competitive advantages by
being a pioneer in trialing and launching new WiMAX services, which will
allow us to capture market opportunities in the next generation wireless
broadband space," says Vu Hoang Lien, CEO, VDC.
According to the company, Motorola WiMAX solutions include a flexible
access point portfolio for operators. The solutions have a small
footprint, are easy to deploy and feature technologies such as modem
technology which supports advanced antenna algorithms ready for future
technologies, helping operators to reduce operating expenditure (OPEX),
says Motorola.
As
Vietnam’s telecom market is gaining momentum, it’s attracting leading
communications players in the country. Of late,
Alcatel-Lucent was awarded a USD 48
million contract by
Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company
to expand and enhance the wireless communications services available
through its Mobifone mobile network.
Recently, WiMAX deployments started happening in Thailand also.
Milcom will use
Redline mobile WiMAX gear in Thailand.
Tech Mahindra, a Redline's systems integrator, will install RedMAX 4C
Mobile WiMAX for multi-city networks. Milcom is deploying the systems at
Amata Industrial Park, an industrial hub in Thailand located outside of
Bangkok.
