MySpace Enters .tel Space
Telnic, the registry operator for the new communications-focused .tel
top level domain (TLD), has roped in MySpace social portal to sell .tel
domains to its members. In partnerships with other ICANN accredited
registrars, MySpace will be offering .tel domains to its community for
US$19.99 per year starting today (March 25). What does it mean to
MySpace users?
Telnic
explains: MySpace's 130 million active users, with over 20 million
unique monthly users accessing the community via mobile devices, will
now be able to take advantage of the .tel to better promote their
MySpace page in organic search results from any device.
At the
same time, users can use the .tel domain to securely share their more
private contact information with non-MySpace users who wish to contact
them.
"MySpace
is exactly the type of partner that has the foresight to see the .tel as
a complementary product, providing choices as social networkers adopt
new modes of communication while they continue to enjoy the benefits of
MySpace," said Khashayar Mahdavi, CEO of Telnic.
Founded
in 2000, Telnic is a UK-based registry operator and sponsoring
organization for the new .tel sponsored top level domain (sTLD).
ICANN
(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is based in
California, United States and is a non-profit organization. Among other
tasks, it handles the assignment of domain names and IP addresses used
on the Internet.
