Social Football Network Footbo Offers New Platform
Footbo.com, an online community for football (soccer) fans, now offers a
user-generated section for amateur football players. This section of the
social network will enable amateur teams and players to create and
manage their own player and team profiles.
"This
new feature will allow users to make their own mark on football history,
providing them with the tools to manage their own amateur teams while
connecting with other fans and community members," said Mani
Honigstein, CEO of Footbo.
Footbo
launched a Beta version in June 2008 and provides football-specific
features and applications, delivered in a social networking environment.
It claims that since its launch, more than 200,000 football fans have
joined the community.
The
amateur area allows amateur players to create their own player profiles
(including their player card with stats and info) as well as their own
football biography, blog and media section, which allows players to
share photos and videos of their game highlights.
"We
want to provide something for every football player, whether they play
in the Park, Five-A-Side, Beach football or in a local city or
neighborhood league," said Honigstein.
Footbo
members can even become fans of amateur players and stay updated on a
player's activities and news. Like with the professional player pages,
members of the Footbo community are invited to add relevant articles,
blog posts, images and video to a player's biography.
Amateur
teams can create a customized team page, complete with team photo, logo
and videos, squad and team history. Team pages give players the ability
to let the Footbo community get to know their team and keep track of the
latest events such as fixtures and results.
The
platform doubles as an organizational tool, enabling team members to
communicate with each other and coordinate team events such as practice
sessions and upcoming games. Other team page functionalities include
tracking game events (goals, penalties, yellow cards, substitutions,
etc.), grading each player's performance and voting for the game's "Man
of the Match".
