Yahoo! Goes Mobile on iPhone, More Countries

Yahoo! says today (June 16) that the new Yahoo! Mobile service is now available in nine additional countries and 100 more devices worldwide. It also comes on iPhone device.

Providing an open and personalized starting point to the Internet on both the mobile Web and as an Apple iPhone app, Yahoo! Mobile enables consumers to discover, stay connected, and stay informed through their mobile devices, says the company.

According to a study, the number of people using their mobile devices to access news and information on the Internet more than doubled from January 2008 to January 2009. Among the audience of 63.2 million people, 22.4 million (35%) did so daily; more than double the size of the audience last year, reports comScore. (Read: Internet Going Mobile: Study)

Another survey of mobile users conducted during the current economic slump indicates consumers intend to increase the use of mobile data services over the next two years. The research, conducted in five Western European countries and the United States by The Nielsen Company for Tellabs, analysed different mobile data services. (Read: Mobile Internet Gaining Momentum: Survey)
