Ovi
Store: It’s Open Now
Nokia
says today (May 26) its Ovi Store is available globally to an estimated
50 million Nokia device owners. It covers over 50 Nokia devices
including the forthcoming device, N97. Users can download games, videos,
podcasts, productivity tools, web and location-based services.
Mobile
stores for all types of devices are increasingly gaining popularity.
Last month, for example,
Apple had announced that
consumers have downloaded
one billion applications from its App Store
in nine months.
Also,
BlackBerry App World launched in the
United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom on April 1. It provides
BlackBerry smartphone users with easy
access to games, social networking, and productivity applications
on-the-go. Similarly,
Android Market is also an open
marketplace for the recently introduced Android-powered devices such as
the T-mobile G1.
According to Nokia, in
available countries, customers can update their devices with the Ovi
Store mobile application by selecting the Ovi Store icon in the
Download! folder on their device. The mobile client is available in
English, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish and supports operator
billing in Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain,
and the United Kingdom.
Users
can visit store.ovi.com through their Nokia
device browser for downloads.
Globally, credit card billing is available through the mobile
application and the mobile website. Additional countries, languages,
devices and features will be added throughout the year, Nokia says.
Ovi
Store is a media service that offers free and paid content. Content
providers and application developers can distribute their content
through Ovi Store by visiting http://publish.ovi.com
