India’s Airtel Offers BlackBerry Pearl
Leading mobile operator in India Bharti Airtel and BlackBerry producer
Research In Motion (RIM) are offering BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220
smartphone. It comes with a price tag of Rs.21,990 (about $450).
According to Airtel, the phone features include spacious keyboard that
allows easy typing and dialing. The flip design opens to a large,
vibrant internal display and provides the satisfying finality of ending
a call by closing the phone.
Customers will also get smartphone's external display for previewing
calendar reminders, email, text messages, and phone calls at a glance.
Today,
BlackBerry supports an array of services and companies are
offering specialized applications for the device.
It
comes with RIM’s mobile email solution and multimedia capabilities. It
will offer support for text messaging, picture messaging, Web browsing
and built-in Wi-Fi. Customers can share pictures, check the latest
sports scores and post content on social networking sites, including
Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace.
“This
innovative smartphone offers the full power of the BlackBerry platform
with advanced communications and multimedia features in a new handset
design that is fun and stylish,” said Ms. Frenny Bawa, VP, India for
RIM.
Earlier, Canada's operator
Rogers Wireless and RIM
decided to offer this model (BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220) to consumers
from Nov. 4,’08 from $49.99 with activation on any combination of 3 year
voice and data plan. It was available with black finish.
During
October last year (2008), T-Mobile USA and RIM had introduced BlackBerry
Pearl Flip 8220 smartphone—claimed to be the
first BlackBerry flip phone—to U.S.
buyers exclusively from T-Mobile.

Airtel is India’s leading integrated telecom services provider. It
