Promises to Deliver Web on TV
VUDU,
a tech service provider for delivering Web to HDTVs and home theaters,
has launched its RIA (Rich Internet Application) platform, It’s a
standards-based facility to bring Web-hosted rich applications to
consumer appliances such as the VUDU Internet movie player.
According to the company, VUDU RIA combines the openness and ease of
development of Web applications, lightweight hardware requirements
compatible with consumer Internet appliances, and a lean-back user
experience optimized for television.
It has
created an initial set of applications and services in a new area of the
VUDU home page, called VUDU Labs. Available to all VUDU owners, these
applications include casual games, implementations of Flickr, Picasa and
the YouTube library, as well as a new "On Demand TV" area with more than
120 channels, says the company.
Research firm ABI Research figures
online video viewing is shifting from PC to TV
screen. And there are expected to be nearly one billion viewers by 2013.
