Your Mobile will Show Night at the Museum

Gameloft, a developer and publisher of video games on mobile phones and consoles, has signed a licensing agreement with Fox Mobile Entertainment to develop, publish, and distribute the mobile game of the upcoming Fox action adventure-comedy Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

The launch of the mobile game will coincide with the film's theatrical release on May 22, 2009.

These days, movie makers are increasingly using mobile platforms to promote their flicks. Earlier last year, DreamWorks Pictures offered original documentary "Rain of Madness," which was available for download on the iTunes Store. "Rain of Madness," starring Jay Baruchel, Jack Black, Steve Coogan, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Hader, Nick Nolte, and Ben Stiller, was a companion piece to the comedy "Tropic Thunder," which debuted in theaters on August 13.

A free mobile entertainment service mywaves signed a deal with Indian producer Mukta Arts, a leading film studio. The partnership included mobile marketing and trailers, interviews, music videos, and outtakes of its films, including Mukta Arts' recent film, Yuvvraaj.

Film-based gaming is also getting popular among film producers. DreamWorks Pictures offered the adventure of "Eagle Eye" with a 10-minute interactive game: Eagle Eye Free Fall. The online game was designed to be an intense plunge into the world of "Eagle Eye" and allowed players to experience what Jerry Shaw character goes through first hand. Players could replay and share it with their friends, in a cross-media storytelling format.

"We are very excited to create a mobile game based on a film sure to delight audiences with its setting in the famous Smithsonian Institution," explains Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of publishing for Gameloft. "Our official mobile game will be an excellent way to reach a wider audience and capture the thrill of the upcoming film."

This is Gameloft's second collaboration with Fox Mobile Entertainment, following the release of the mobile game DIE HARD 4. The new mobile title will emulate the film's mix of comedy, action and adventure, bringing to life famous artifacts from the historic institution.

The Smithsonian is the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart flew on her nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby red slippers.

"Bearing in mind Gameloft's expertise in casual gaming, we are confident this new title will be filled with entertaining and innovative gameplay," explains Andrew Stalbow, SVP, Fox Mobile Entertainment. "We look forward to seeing the excitement and adventure of Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian brought to life on mobile phones worldwide."

The mobile game will be available on most major carrier decks.

Fox Mobile Entertainment is a unit of Fox Mobile Group. Headquartered in Berlin, Germany and Beverly Hills, CA, Fox Mobile Group is wholly owned by News Corporation.
