Motorola’s Device Management Solution for IPTV

The Motorola Netopia Broadband Server for its VIP set-top platform for IPTV promises to improve manageability and enhanced end-user experience. Will provide standards-based device management to service providers

Motorola has introduced remote device management for its IPTV set-tops. Motorola's NBBS device management system will now enable service providers to accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences with new services, improved customer satisfaction, and lower operational costs with fewer truck rolls, says the company.

Motorola NBBS is a scaleable, carrier-grade software platform that enables operators to remotely access, configure, monitor and troubleshoot a full portfolio of consumer devices, home networks, and services.

These include gateways, modems, webcams and now IP set-tops - namely, the VIP set-top series, adding more flexibility for service providers. The NBBS platform, according to Motorola, increases revenues by accelerating new service introduction.

Motorola's VIP set-top platform encompasses all-IP or hybrid high-definition and standard-definition set-tops with built-in digital video recorders for diversified programming options, interactivity, and video on demand for TV viewers.

The VIP set-tops also support a variety of home-networking interfaces and the KreaTV application development environment, which enables features such as NBBS, advanced interactive applications, and third-party middleware solutions.

The NBBS platform supports multiple protocols such as TR-069, telnet and HTTP management interfaces for seamless integration into service providers' existing networks, including provisioning, billing and customer support across multi-vendor CPE.

According to the company, NBBS is also compatible with WiMAX and femtocell CPE.
