Verizon Invests Over $100 Million
for New England V&D Network
Verizon Wireless has announced the completion of voice and data network
enhancements in New England that totaled more than $109 million during the
first half of 2008. With this, the company's regional network investment
has gone to over $2.2 billion since 2000.
Verizon
Wireless' investment included adding and upgrading cell sites to increase
voice and data coverage for customers throughout New England. The company
provides high-speed wireless broadband service throughout its entire
regional footprint.
"We've
always believed that even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as
the network it runs on," said Richard Enright, director for Network
Systems Performance for Verizon Wireless. "Our continued investment in the
network throughout New England allows customers to take advantage of
tremendous mobile productivity and entertainment options -- everything
from accessing the Internet to downloading music wirelessly."
Verizon
Wireless' "3G" high-speed wireless data network, which covers more than
80% of the U.S. population, powers its BroadbandAccess and V CAST
multimedia applications.
According
to the company, its flagship data service, BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Rev
A. technology, provides notebook computer users average download speeds of
600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits and average upload speeds
of 500- 800 kbps.
The
company's high-speed network also enables its V CAST multimedia services,
offering customers the ability to download full song tracks, play 3D
games, and stream video clips straight to their phones. With content
updated daily, customers can watch on-demand videos, including breaking
news, weather, sports highlights, and entertainment clips.
