Jewel Quest Mysteries: Curse of the Emerald Tear, according to the company, is one of the first games, which manages to integrate two different game play mechanics into one game. It uses the Match 3 gameplay as a complement to the hidden object gameplay. In gives the player more options to customize their gameplay.

"In Jewel Quest Mysteries, we created a unique player upgrade system that allows the players to customize their play methods," said Dennis Cheng, sr. producer at iWin. "For example, some players may want to upgrade more time on their clock while others might want extra hints for later in the game. It allows players to play games the way they want."
