Watching Your Own TV Channel
A
content personalization solution provider beeTV based in Italy has
launched a platform with the same name to allow consumers to watch TV with
its Personal Content Channel. The offer is supposed to be an improvement
over the existing electronic program guides (EPGs) and tends to create a
personal channel for the users. Content companies that use IPTV, cable,
satellite, mobile, and Internet to deliver content can distribute their
programs in a personal, push manner. beeTV enables viewers to be matched
with content based on their individual tastes, behaviour, and mood.
How it
works? When a viewer pushes a button on the remote, the platform responds
instantly with personalized, individualized matches of TV programs and
movies. beeTV uses the impact of visual television images to bring
personalized content to the viewer, eliminating the need of navigating
through an EPG.
"beeTV is
like having a best friend who understands what you're all about, and who
sits around all day scouring the TV universe for programming you would
enjoy when you do find time to sit down and watch," commented company
chairman and founder Rodolfo Hecht. "Channel surfing was fine when there
were a limited number of networks. As the choice grows exponentially,
flipping through channels is no longer a sustainable option," added
Hecht.
beeTV
uses a proprietary contextual matching algorithm to generate this personal
channel in real time fueled by the interaction of data derived from
viewing behavior, a consumer profile, timing sensitivity analysis, and the
business logic and marketing requirements of the platform.
It is
designed to serve three screens: TV, Mobile, and PC with its server side
beeHIVE core technology. beeHIVE interfaces with the platform's existing
systems and encompasses all of beeTV's proprietary components. It serves
as the personalization and content marketing manager between the platform
and each viewer.
For the
platforms, beeTV is designed to maximize ROI while dealing with each
platform's unique advantages and specific constraints. It, says the
company, results in higher ARPU's, increased VOD usage and consumption,
and extracts hidden potential out of movies, television series, and
program libraries.
beeTV
aims to reduce churn rate, increase penetration, and enhance viewer
satisfaction by making the viewer more aware of all the content available
across their platforms. It encourages them to upgrade their subscriptions,
while at the same time creating a brand new revenue stream through
targeted ads on the platform.
For the
television viewer, beeTV becomes a Personal Content Channe. It is a
complement to the existing navigational systems and acts as an entry
system for the viewer into the world of television content. In fact, the
company says, it turns TV watching into an individualized entertainment
experience serving as a "find engine" rather than a "search engine".
