April 11, 2008
Bloggers are Stars

I don’t want to call them fly-by-night operators simply because I’m also a blogger…now. But yeah bloggers are definitely stars, stars in the sky - now they exist, now they don’t…when you open your eyes. And like for stars, it’d be futile to count them also because they keep appearing and disappearing. Still, if you insist I’d say the ratio of websites to blogs is 1:2. So roughly 300 million blogs hover in the Net cloud. Most of them are static, miles-long webpages created randomly with visuals and videos collected from here and there.

However, some of them are good, too good - I must say. I think that would have inspired the tech market researcher IDC to organize a debate among the region’s leading bloggers at IDC’s Asia/Pacific Directions 2008 on April 18 at Singapore. While the topic of discussion is Generation Y and the Emerging Power of User-generated Content, bloggers will come from Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Hong Kong.

I too got the invitation - not as a blogger, but as a journalist, I guess. Won’t attend. But it’s interesting to see this seismic shift where all (well, almost all) readers are becoming writers. Good luck to all of them.
